The African Diaspora Marketplace (ADM) is a business plan competition designed to support the entrepreneurial spirit and resources of the U.S.-based African diaspora community to promote economic development in Sub-Saharan Africa by facilitating diaspora direct investment (DDI) in viable small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The ADM is financed jointly by USAID, the Western Union Company, and the Western Union Foundation, Ecobank, and Barr Management. The event is hosted by AED.

The Marketplace on January 13, 2010 will be the culmination of this seven-month long selection process to identify the best business ideas. Sixty (60) finalists will present their ideas to a panel of judges consisting of business experts and leaders from the diaspora community, USAID, Western Union, and other development institutions and private sector companies. 10-20 winning businesses will receive matching partnership grants of US$50,000 to US$100,000 each.

The final event will take place in the conference center of the Academy for Educational Development. Each finalist will create a booth to showcase their business which will be open for viewing from 10 AM to 5:30 PM. ADM partners will host a panel discussion on "Success Stories: Sharing Experiences from Entrepreneurs" for all Marketplace attendees. Following the closing of the marketplace, the winning businesses will be announced at an Awards Ceremony with a reception to follow.
